New beds behind the chicken shed loosening hardcore Tuesday 10th January

Today we continued preparing the beds behind the chicken shed,

These beds look nice and the topsoil is good because of the compost heap that was here but the soil is only 6-8 inches deep over the hardcore.

on the R new woodchip path, next to that topsoil and down the middle the hardcore that will be excavated by hand (it has been commented that a digger might do this job more quickly!

We  stripped back the top soil and loosening the hardcore laid for the old coach park, some of this layer  is so substantial that we have taken it up and put it in pot holes on the drive

a rotating sieve set over a wheelbarrow to separate out the hardcore for use elsewhere
